Greetings from Dr. Martha Grout:
You may have heard the news that the FDA has agreed to irradiate spinach and iceberg lettuce. This is unwelcome news for those of us who appreciate the benefits of enzymes and other nutrients in our raw veggies.
Also in the news, is there arsenic in your drinking water or non-organic chicken? New research says that can contribute to type 2 diabetes.
Did you know we regularly post on the website’s homepage concise health news and commentary we think you will find worth knowing? Look for it on the right-hand side at www.ArizonaAdvancedMedicine.com.
GREEN SUMMIT SEPT 5-6
The annual Green Summit takes place at the downtown Phoenix Convention Center on Friday-Saturday, September 5th – 6th. They asked me to speak on Genetically Modified foods. So catch my presentation on Saturday the 6th at 2 PM. For more information on the Summit’s agenda, see www.greensummit.net.
The amount of GM food in the grocery store is growing – and it is mostly unlabeled. This year, several leading U.S. sugar providers began sourcing their sugar from genetically engineered sugar beets.
Fresh fruits, however, are often labeled. Look for the number on the small tag that lists the grower’s name - the tag is usually about as big as a fingernail. Conventional (pesticided) fruit labels begin with 4. Organic fruit labels have five digits and begin with 9. Genetically modified fruit labels begin with the number 8.
To read more about GM foods, see the articles in our website’s library.
RACE FOR THE CURE OCT 12 – Mammography versus Thermography
The annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure takes place in Phoenix again this October. We were there last year, passing out brochures that “Cancer is Preventable.” The Komen organization is terrific at raising money, but I’m frustrated that their message is shaped in great part by their sponsors – candy companies, pharmaceutical companies, pesticide manufacturers, etc. I just shake my head when they continue to recommend mammography for breast cancer screening.
Mammography has a difficult time giving a good reading in women with dense breasts. It exposes women year after year to radiation which increases the odds for cancer. And it hurts to have breast tissue squished between two pieces of metal; researchers have long warned that the compressive force used to obtain useable mammograms may spread an existing malignancy.
Dr. John W. Gofman, an authority on the health effects of ionizing radiation, estimates that 75 percent of breast cancer could be prevented by avoiding or minimizing exposure to the ionizing radiation. This includes mammography, x-rays, and other medical and dental sources.
The Canadian National Breast Screening Study concluded there is no evidence that screening with mammography is effective for women under 50 years of age.
Thermography on the other hand is a non-invasive, fifteen minute test. It does not use radiation, does not compress breast tissue, and is better than mammography at early detection of breast function abnormalities. It has so much going for it – except that most of the medical community long ago invested in mammography machines.
The consensus is that early detection of breast cancer holds the key to survival. Thermography can detect suspicions of cancer formation 10 years before mammography can. Thermography is a better early warning system, giving women a fighting chance.
Help me get the word out. At www.ThermographyArizona.com, you will find an informative, “Printable Flyer” you can give to your friends and loved ones. Then call to arrange for a thermogram.
BRAINADVANTAGE
This summer, we began to work with children and adults who want to improve the ability of their mind to remember things better and to think more clearly. We have been blown away frankly by improvements we’ve seen in people struggling with ADHD, “senior moments,” and anxiety and depression. Some of these people have gone through EEG-based training programs with little results; they are getting significant results with our BrainAdvantage program.
BrainAdvantage is a simple, economical way to improve brain function. We use HEG technology to get more oxygen to the brain. More oxygen equals more brain power.
We’ve also found that working with the brain’s neurotransmitters can “turbo charge” what we do to heal the body.
Beginning September 27th, we will have free Saturday morning workshops on nutrition specially designed for those in the BrainAdvantage program. Ask us to give you a demo of how BrainAdvantage works and what it can do for you.
If we can help you or a loved one, we are just a phone call away.
