Jonathan Bruce Murphy, MD is a medical doctor with a strong interest in holistic and integrative medicine. He had a thriving practice in West Virginia, using integrative and functional medicine in the treatment of cancer patients. However, his options for treatment there were somewhat limited. Fortunately for us, he heard the call to "go West" and came to Arizona intending to open a center for integrative treatment of cancer. Fate intervened, we met through serendipity - or Design - and he has joined forces with our Center. His great love is the practice of the art of integrative medicine, utilizing the best parts of all possible worlds to provide a roadmap for healing. Dr. Jon is trained in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, having passed the Board examinations for both disciplines. He has a strong interest in working with autistic children. He has completed most of the required hours of continuing education to take the State Homeopathic Board Examination, and is planning to take that examination before the end of the year, so that he may obtain his Homeopathic license.

Deborah Marie Murphy, PA-C - known to her friends and colleagues as Debi - is a physician assistant with a particular interest in women's health care. She does well woman annual examinations, and utilizes thermography to screen for breast disease - no radiation, and no squashing of tissues - read more about this evaluation at our Themography website. Debi has trained extensively in the area of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), and utilizes hormone testing to make sure that the hormones are metabolized safely. HRT has gotten somewhat of a black eye since the Women's Health Initiative study results were published a few years ago. What the study failed to mention is that hormones derived from horse urine (the standard "pharmaceutical" hormones) are metabolized differently from those that the human body normally produces ("bioidentical" hormones). In addition, some women can use hormones safely and never develop hormone-driven cancers. Others metabolize them in a way that is more conducive to development of cancer - whether we are talking about horse-derived or bioidentical. Let's face it - some women simply require HRT to be able to enjoy (or even tolerate) their menopausal years. There are ways to test, and supplements to take, which will make the necessary hormone replacement therapy safer. Debi is very familiar with this whole aspect of HRT.

AZ Legislature Increases Medical Diversity
I am pleased to be able to tell you that on April 19, Governor Jan Brewer signed into law SB1175. This new legislation creates a new medical license in Arizona, the Doctor of Homeopathy. Qualified individuals will have undergone four years of medical school (4,280 hours) at the American Medical College of Homeopathy, 1951 W. Camelback Road in Phoenix. This represents a major step for Arizona to truly be a leader in the growing world of integrative, homeopathic, and holistic medicine. The program is provisionally licensed by the Arizona Board of Private Postsecondary Education and is the first of its kind in the country.
How does the Doctor of Homeopathy differ from the license I have, the Homeopthic Physician's license? Homeopathy is the study of more than 3000 remedies made from herbs, plants, minerals, metals, and animal products prepared to bring out the healing power of the substance. It is both art and science and it takes quite a bit of dedication to master it. Some individuals wish to devote their practice as a medical doctor to one using primarily homeopathic remedies. This new license is for those individuals who want to specialize.
My first license is the traditional Medical Doctor, expressed as MD. My second license is the Homeopathic Physician's license, expressed as MD(H). This second license was created by the Arizona Legislature 30 years ago and, by statute, allows me to perform homeopathy as well as acupuncture, chelation, minor surgery, musculoskeletal therapy, orthomolecular medicine (think IV drips), and to dispense some prescriptions. Arizona led the nation in protecting the ability to practice a wide range of complementary and alternative therapies by creating the MD(H) license in 1981.
